After two years, I am still alive and in a new part of my life so I am restarting this website!
Migrating Over To Hugo
Originally this website was made using Jekyll, but I’ve been interested in learning the Go programming language and so I decided to use Hugo. So far no complaints!
The Language Learning Journey (And Dropping German 🤫)
In my first and only blog post up to now, I talked about how I think language learning can be done at any age. Some things have changed. I still do think that languages can be learned at any age. However, in that post, I used German examples because I was learning it at the time. I started learning German because my friends did, and I kept it up for a while - about 1.5 years! After a long time of somewhat consistent studying and steady improvement, I decided to not continue with German and to just put it on the shelf ☹️. After a while, it felt like I was putting a lot of effort into something that was not benefitting me much and while I love learning for the sake of learning, I felt that there were other languages that would be more useful to me. A while ago I picked up Mandarin and while my Mandarin is not the greatest, it feels super fulfilling to study and I’ve learned a whole lot.
The languages that I regularly find myself using are:
- English (my native language)
- Khmer (which I am a heritage speaker of)
- Spanish (learned in school)
- Mandarin (which I suck at)
The Plan
I have always wanted to blog, but life kept getting in the way and I guess I didn’t want it enough. But my plan is to try again and blog about my hobbies while bringing you along!
